• Remove any clutter within the house, but not to the point where the house looks empty.
• Put away small appliances, cleaners, mail, newspapers, toys etc.
• Make sure all the windows are clean.
• Make the house brighter. Open curtains before the house is shown during the day and turn lights on before the house is shown at night.
• Set the dining room table to enhance the visual appeal of the room.
• Paint walls neutral colors (white, off-white, beige). Avoid unusual colors, which may not appeal to everyone’s taste or match everyone’s furniture. Avoid red or gold wallpaper.
• Take down wild posters in teenagers’ rooms.
• Eliminate bad odors, for example from pets.
• Trim bushes; keep the grass cut and the yard free of debris.
• Make sure the entrance to the home is appealing. Remove any clutter (brooms, rakes, toys, etc.). Use a new doormat and potted flowers.
• Clean out closets to make them look spacious.
